Today I would like to write about the incredible story **miracle** of Hadassah Joy Ancil (Haddie Joy). She is the beautiful daughter of a friend's friend. She was born November 15th, 2010 at 11pm, weighing just 5lbs 12oz, to Peter and Brooke Ancil. You might be quick to say, all babies are miracles and dismiss this birth as an everyday ocurrence. Well, Haddie Joy is no where near average. Please read on to learn why.

Though I only know Brooke and Peter through my friend, I know that their marriage is grounded in The Lord. I also know that throughout their marriage, they have had struggles in life that have caused much pain. And yet, they know that The Lord carries them through each trial and holds their hands when theyare in need. I believe that The Lord knows the love that Peter and Brooke have for Him and that He has chosen to use them and their precious child to glorify Him.

It was in the Spring of 2010 that they found out they were pregnant, again, after 2 miscarriages. We know this bitter sweet feeling all too well, as Nehemiah was our pregnancy after 2 miscarriages. However, Brooke and Peter knew something about this pregnancy that I did not have to experience. They knew that Brooke had a medical deficiency that could, potentially, cause another miscarriage. Using their faith to go by, they trusted The Lord and moved forward with no treatment for this defiency despite the doctors recommendation and sought a second opinion.

On May 17th they went for that appointment. And as Brooke wrote, "little did we know it would change our lives," (
journeythroughjoy). An ultrasound revealed that there were "some serious abnormalities with the baby," (journeythroughjoy). From that point on, Brooke and Peter experienced things that noone would ever want to go through. They were told their child had a cystic hygroma that may or may not have fatal results on the baby. Again, they prayed together and trusted The Lord, though it wasn't easy for them always.

Then their next appointment came June 8th, with the hope that the percentages were good. What they were told was exactly the opposite. The doctor informed them that based on the new ultrasound, that it was "very grave" and that the baby had  "deformities...it was very unlikely that the baby would survive" the pregnancy and if the baby did, that "the baby would not live very long thereafter," (
journeythroughjoy). WOW!! Termination was discussed by the doctor as well as many other possibilities. Brooke and Peter, again prayed, and their family and friends prayed.

As the pregnancy continued, there were more ultrasounds and tests, each continuing to show various concerns. Brooke's high risk pregnancy continued, though, despite the concerns of the doctors that she could miscarry. As her due date approached, the ultrasounds continued to show fluid around her heart and lungs and a date was set for delivery. She was scheduled to go to Nashville for the specialty care that the baby would need and where her doctors were. Well The Lord always knows what best and everything happens in His time, not ours. Brooke went into labor sooner than expected and was not able to get to the specialty hospital. She had to deliver at the local hospital. The doctor and nurses were prepared to take Haddie Joy straight to Nashville for the care they believed would be necessary. She was born, as I said, on November 15th at 2300, without complication, and without need for any interventions!! After additional testing, she was given a "normal healthy girl" genetics reading. The Lord is AMAZING and so wonderful in His love for us.

My words are only an abbreviated portion of this wonderful miracle. Please go to the website dedicated to this pregnancy, created by Brooke: Journey Through Joy
. You can read Brooke's posts as she and Peter took this journey with The Lord right beside them. You can also see a few pictures of this beautiful child, Haddie Joy. Through Brooke's words, you will be able to know the personal relationship she has with The Lord. She offered wonderful words of wisdom, even as she was going through one of the most difficult times of her life. An example of these words can be seen right in her very first post:

"I would love to share our journey as we await what the Lord has in store for our sweet baby and us.  Nothing, however grave, is without hope when we love God and are called according to His purposes.  We, therefore, indeed have the privilege of knowing Him through all things and it helps me to be able to share what He is showing and teaching me about Himself through this circumstance with anyone willing to listen." (http://journeythroughjoy.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/whats-happening-part-i/)

I am thankful just for knowing a little of their story. The faith that Brooke has had throughout this is increI look forward to learning what The Lord has planned for all of them, especially Haddie Joy.

I am reminded of Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

and Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

The Lord loves each and every one of us, and is ALWAYS there if we just "acknowledge Him" and remember "He will not leave you nor forsake you."

If you have any questions regarding any of them, feel free to contact me. Also, if you come across broken links on any of the pages, please let me know so that I amy fix them.

Now is the time Christmas shopping is really on everyone's mind. Several of the products I have reviewed would make great gifts as well as an educational tool.

Take care and until next time!!

Do you have so many books that you can't even begin to estimate how many? Are you ever at a great book sale and can't remember if you have that book? Or have you ever wanted to loan a book, say...curriculum, to a fellow homeschool family but can't remember where, when, or even if you have it? It can be overwhelmingly frustrating, to say the least. Well now you can have all of your books organized under one program! Collectorz Book Collector allows you to "catalog your collections" so that you and your family will know just what you have.
Picture
What is Book Collector? - it is a program that you can purchase and download through collectorz.com that allows you to catalog your entire book collection! Now you will know which Dr. Seus books your kids have, which fishing guides your hubby has, and which great reads you have.

"How do I use it?" you ask. - It's quite simple, really. And...you can use it with PC's, Mac's, and even online. You just type in the ISBN number, author, title, or LC classification and hit search. The program will search the collectorz.com database to find your book. Once found, it provides the title, author, publication date, publisher, number of pages, and a cover image (when available). You then just select the right book and hit add. It's that easy! You could even purchase a scanner and scan in the bar code and it will automatically find your book. It's amazing! Once you have loaded your book(s) in the system, if you have the pro edition, you can upload your information in HTML format to your website or send it to your iPad or mobile device or have it available to you everywhere. You will also have the ability to personalize your files: adding in information about any book that you want.

Are you wondering "what's the catch"? - There's really no catch to this. Once you purchase the program, you can start entering your library information and then you will have all of your title's in one convenient location, even if they're really scattered about the house, car, garage, yard, wherever...

OH! Wait! There is ONE CATCH!! - you have to be willing to give up the frustration that comes with searching high and low for that one book that you know you have because you just saw it in the livingroom...or was it the kid's room? ;)
What's the price? - You have 2 different options for purchasing Book Collector. The Standard Edition is $29.95 and the Pro Edition is $49.95. You can view the differences between the two editions here. You can even try it out for FREE here.

What's Our Take? - I like the idea of Book Collector. We have so many books and I am sure we have 2 or 3 of some of them. My only hesitation is that I do not have a lot of time to invest in pulling out my books and putting them in. That said, it does not take long at all. And if you have a scanner, it's even quicker. Except if you have an old book or out-of-print book. Then you may have to enter the information in yourself. Not really a big deal, IMHO. I believe this could be a nice edition to any family's library. Why not try it out for 30 days and see?

Collectorz.com is based out of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Their contact information is here. Besides Book Collector, they also offer Movie Collector, Music Collector, Comic Collector, Game Collector, MP3 Collector, and Photo Collector. I have only personally reviewed Book Collector. You can check all of these programs out on their website.

Accounting, in my mind, has always been one of those things that has a "love it or hate it" aura. Usually those that love it do so because they like numbers and those that don't...well...don't. This next product I will tell you about will help you (and your student) to be in the love it category :)

As a member of the TOS Crew, I was presented with the opportunity to review Financial Accounting by Professor In A Box. This course was designed specifically for the homeschool high school student.  It is a "challenging college level course similar in content to the first accounting course taken by all students in university and college schools of business," (professorinabox.comFinancial Accounting offers students, whether a love it or hate it student, an interesting approach to learning this subject.

About the course: This class is taught in a non-traditional format. It is 100% book free, meaning, it is all on CD. There is no heavy textbook to lug around. There are a total of 12 chapters in the course, covered on 4 CD's. The chapters are covered in a 28 lesson format; with 3 different suggestions given for a timeline to finish. Of course, it will be your decision on how and when to administer the course (one of the perks to homeschooling, lol). The lessons are given in via Flash lecture slides that are narrated by Professor Michael Licata. The student can click through each lesson and even print out the slides if desired. The tests are in a printable PDF format with solutions available. There is also a Key Concepts & Terms section for each chapter. There is also an instructor's CD that provides lesson plans, a course syllabus, quizzes, exams, and excel templates.

About the creator: Professor Michael Likata, Ph.D is an Associate Professor at Villanova School of Business at Villanova University in Villanova, PA. He has been a professor there for 24+ years. Prof. Licata is also a homeschool dad to 2, which gives him an edge into the world of homeschooling and the availability (or lack of) to certain courses we have access to.

What we thought: I liked this course. I enjoy math and almost any product associate with it :) Prof. Licata breaks down this course into simple, easy to learn lessons, that most students will find interesting. The pace can be whatever you want it to be, too. Another GREAT thing about this class is that it will prepare your student for the CLEP Financial Accounting Exam.
Financial Accounting can be purchased at the discounted price of $99.95, for a limited time. The normal price is $134.99, so now is a great time to buy. And don't forget, there is a 30 day, money back guarantee offered by Professor In A Box.
